The Muthrog Incident - Part 4

“They are not following us in sir,” said Copland ducking under exposed coils to read the panel.

“Good,” said Hunt, his hand rubbing his forehead and discovered a cut just above his brow. There was a sudden blanket of silence over the ship as Starlight entered the nebula. Hunt breathed a sigh, relishing the quiet.

“Sir, our shields won't be able to protect us from the radiation inside this cloud for more than two hours,” Copland reported.

“Then start repairs,” Hunt said. He turned to look at DeSalle. “Doctor, take Hoggins and the rest of the injured to sickbay.” Hunt stood and felt a sharp pain on his sides. He knew that he had probably broken a few ribs. He took a deep breath which made him flinch, but he tried not to let the pain show. “Clear the bridge,” he said clenching his teeth trying to re-channel the pain. “All except you Je-El, I think we need to talk.

...

Ten Hours Ago

“They are a brute race,” said Je-El in a very matter-of-fact tone. He huffed and waved his hand to show how little he thought of matter.

“So have you had any contact with these... er,” said Hoggins realizing that he didn't know what to call the inhabitants of the planets at the brink of the nebulae.

“The Cintay,” said the Muthrog shaking his head. “And no, we want nothing to do with these unenlightened species.”

“But surely you must know them a little if you have been mining the nebulae all this time,” asked Captain Hunt who felt that Je-El was being evasive with his answers. He flashed a look at Hoggins and saw that he was sensing the same thing too.

“Mining? We don't mine, we're not miners! We collect the gasses that emanates from the nebulae, that's what we do!” said Je-El looking indignantly at the three men sitting in front of him.

“Je-El, I'm afraid from a purely tactical point of view we need to know if these beings are hostile since we're in their space,” said H'loor refocusing the conversation.

“Oh I wouldn't worry,” huffed Je-El.

“But...” started Hoggins.

“Thank you Je-El, we will let you rest and get ready for our rendezvous with your other ships,” interjected Hunt and stood to indicate that the meeting was over. “Mr. Hoggins would you see our guest to his quarters?”

As soon as the doors were closed, Hunt stood behind H'loor.

“Your thoughts H'loor.”

“It is clear that there is some hostility between the Muthrog and the Cintay, and if we are entering a contentious part space, we have to be prepared.”

“Make all the necessary preparations H'loor but we need to still appear friendly to the Muthrog ships when we arrive.”

“Understood.”

...

It was 0300 when Hoggins walked into his quarters. The captain had briefed him on the contingency plan and he was helping H'loor prep the ship's defense systems until he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore. He stumbled into his quarters rubbing his head feeling a migraine coming along. He walked into his bedroom dragging his feet and found Miles Kopel asleep on his bed.

Hoggins stood at the foot of the bed and almost chuckled seeing how Kopel was on his back hugging the pillows. He looked so innocent, almost childlike in a deep blissful sleep. Kopel's legs were apart after kicking off the sheets, and from where Hoggins was standing, he could see Kopel's cock and balls nestled between his two powerful thighs.

Hoggins crouched down and rested his chin on the edge of the bed admiring Mile's perfectly formed genitals. The dim light overhead bathed the soft roll of flesh in an amber glow and it accentuated every fold of the thin membrane that covered the flaccid penis. Mile's penis looked gentle in the way it was slumped over the two balls made it look adorable, Hoggins thought. 'Adorable' that's one word that Hoggins never thought he'd use to describe a penis. Lately, all his encounters with penises were always rigid, engorged and almost angry. They came at him from every which way, and he would worship them, tame them even, until they submitted to him. And often they did.

Hoggins climbed into bed as gently as he could, moving himself closer between the sleeping man's open legs. When he was close enough, he could smell the gentle musk that emanated from Kopel's groin. Under normal circumstances, Hoggins would have pounced in and wrapped his lips around the cock, but not tonight. Perhaps because he was fatigued from his long work hours and stressed out from the fact that Starlight was inching into a possibly hostile territory, his instincts were held back.

Lately, he had been jumping into bed with anyone who offered. And the sex was always exciting and hot, but there were never any real time for intimacy. It was as if he would just let rip his carnal needs and persevered to see that every nuance of it is satisfied. Nothing else mattered. Hoggins knew that in his zeal for sexual gratification, he had hurt the one man who was in love with him. A man whom he could, quite possibly, love back.

Hoggins reached out and touched Kopel's scrotum, the skin felt smooth and supple, almost without wrinkles. He could feel the testicles move under his touch as the penis twitched.

“What time is it?” said Kopel stirring and sitting up rubbing his eyes.

“Sorry, didn't mean to wake you,” Hoggins moved next to Kopel. “You were waiting up for me?” Hoggins traced the lines on Kopel's face creased from the ruffled sheets.

“It's okay,” said Kopel. “I should go, and let you sleep.”

Hoggins grabbed Kopel's arm as he was trying to get out of bed and he pulled him back. He couldn't understand why this man was putting up with him, he couldn't get why Kopel would go out of his way to let him have his.

“I've been an asshole,” said Hoggins holding Kopel closer. “I don't really know why I've been acting the way I have, and I know that I've really hurt you,” he said almost whispering.

“Hey, as long as you come back every night, I -”

“You shouldn't have to put up with all this shit,” Hoggins couldn't look Kopel in the eye. All he could do was hold his hand.

“I know, I'm kind of a masochistic idiot.”

Hoggins looked up and saw that Kopel was trying to smile. Right then, Hoggins felt something he never thought he would. He had always thought that shame was an archaic concept, but at that it felt real. He leaned in and kissed Kopel.

“I guess we're just not meant to be.” Kopel stared so intently into Hoggins' eyes that he turned away. Hoggins wanted so much to say otherwise, but he couldn't. And so he didn't.

Hoggins caressed Kopel's bare shoulders and kissed him again. He lay Kopel down and kissed his neck. Kopel held Hoggins' head when he reached his nipple and didn't let go until he was moaning from the touch of his tongue. Hoggins went on to lick Kopel's tummy, caressing his face against the smoothness of his stomach. When he reached his belly button, Hoggins felt Kopel's erection pressed against his chin. He promptly attended to it – licking the corona and the single tear of precum on the slit. He tasted to salty droplet and he looked up at Kopel. There were so many things he could say or do to salvage this relationship. But he couldn't, and so he didn't.

That night the two men made love knowing that in the morning, they would no longer be together. And although their romance was brief, their feelings for each other was deep. Hoggins hated himself for not being able to sustain it and he would cry if only tears would come.

Soon, at 0600 the alarm will ring and they would have to leave for their shifts. Till then, they held each other tight and slept as a couple for the last time.
